We are very pleased to welcome you to this edition of our bimonthly newsletter.
Many things have happened since the integration of the initial team of Via Education. The number of projects, their scope and influence has increased, and an extraordinary team of researchers has been consolidated.
Currently, Via Education develops various lines of action aimed to achieve sustainable social development, within which are included: evaluation of educational programs, consulting local development agencies and NGO’s, development of social responsibility programs, developing models of social enterprises, and education for democratic citizenship (EDC) programs.

- The debate is open, how to improve and maintain the validity of the democratic system that our countries now enjoy? how to expand social citizenship? how to reduce poverty and inequality that remain as the great stain and threat to this democratic system? how to extend the policy? or how to recover the public debate and participation of the people? -

Community Improving
|
| |
Since the fall of 2008, VIA Education has been collaborating with alumni from the Tecnológico de Monterrey and citizens of a district within the metropolitan area of Monterrey with high levels of insecurity in a project to improve the community’s quality of life.
Participants will meet regularly and follow the Participative System for Sustainable Development. This methodology of Citizenship Participation, designed by VIA Education, has led the team to achieve integrated to work collaboratively in solving community problems, eg lack of social cohesion, garbage and lack of public lighting which leads to other problems.
Community members have expressed to feel very happy because they wanted to do something since long time ago, but did not know how. It has been remarkable their commitment in spite of the adversity circumstances in which they are involved and their motivation to continue working for their community.
"It was very good and pleasant [...] involving leaders of the community who have a great desire to improve the quality of life of residents. Our district needs the support and guidance from those who know the easiest ways to improve the quality of life. The opinion I have is that we all are needed to improve the atmosphere of our neighborhood". – A participant from the community.
In order to strengthen social cohesion last semester there were two activities as part of the work plan, which were attended by over 500 community members. This was a great sign of how many people are in favor of alternatives to improve their living circumstances.
Our congratulations to the students from the Actions for Mexico Council (CAM) who in this work were recognized with the High Performance Award by the Tecnológico de Monterrey.
This program also received the award "Más por la Paz" (More for the Peace) by the organizations Creeserand Paz es
