ViaEducation's name comes from what it means in spanish: to generate sustainable development by means of education; that is, by means of learning processes based on the common social welfare and justice.
Since our creation, something fundamental has been to consider the human being as a capable person to improve the quality of his environment despite the unfavorable conditions that surround him. At the same time consider that the deprivation of opportunities that will carry out the persons to such changes, affect their possibilities of action, reduce their capabilities and limit their taking of decisions.
ViaEducation works in collaboration with different sectors because we consider taht the sustainable development implies an integral effort of the society. From the different levels, like public, private or civil, we work in a problem-solving outline, in which the different voices of the involved people are considered including those ones that suffer the highest poverty. |
ViaEducation's work is distinguished from others because it includes to the persons in their original and own environments and generates opportunities to build local abilities that makes the person the agents of change of their own reality.
Also, ViaEducation consider besides the strengthening of the citizen participation of the people in difficulties, is needed to establish some bridges between they and those who have capabilities to transform the structural factors that remain in a perverse circle of porverty, inequality and environmental degradation.
In positive terms the sustainable development is reached by an awareness of the own capabilities of the people and then with a combination of those abilities with different social actors focused in a common goal that will generate a better quality of life for everybody. |
ViaEducation knows that this effort doesn't arise in an spontaneous way, but it has to follow a process. This process has been defined as Participative systems of sustainable development and is the basis in all interventions. This process is enough flexible to adapt itself to each reality, but it is rigorous in the coaching of some steps in order to fulfill the objectives.
These steps consider to begin by an immersion in the community or institution to know the reality and then identify the problem to ease the process in which the same community or institution develop an action plan that will take to improve their problem.
Finally evaluating in an continuous way the process in order to reflex about the action and their results.
With the aim of achieving the sustainability we need to consider an component of leadership, which is the one that constructs the local capabilites and guarantee the continuity of the change and the promotion of the subsequent improvements.
